Sunday ROW80 Check-In & A WIPeteer Cheer

ROW80LogocopyWow, yes, I’m actually on time doing a ROW80 Sunday check-in! That, in and of itself, is incredible. Not only a check-in, but some actual word counts. Drum roll, please!

  1. First draft of Emergence now stands at 97,663/110k.
  2. First draft of Crossing Paths jumped to nearly 18k. If you missed my Wednesday WIPpet, I shared Rainie and Ethan’s official introduction to one another.
  3. Even though it wasn’t included in my original ROW80 goals, The First House has become an official WIP, so I’m going to include it here. I’m a tad over 16k. I haven’t visited the boys lately but I’ll be getting back to them soon. I’m thinking of releasing the first episode of the serial on Wattpad. I don’t know much about it, though, so am closely watching fellow There & Draft Again member Mara Valderran’s venture. Anyone else have any experience with Wattpad?

I‘ve managed to add words to both Emergence and Crossing Paths this week. Weekends are actually bad for me as far as writing because I need to get caught up on a ton of other things, and then there’s that lovely painting the house project that will likely take us all summer. That or graduations, weddings, dog-related events . . . all those other aspects of my life. I’m still confident I’ll get the first draft of Emergence wrapped up before the end of the month. My plan is to let it sit for a while — which in my impatient world is defined as a week or so — then print out a hard copy and read it through, making chapter notes, plot foibles, character issues. Once I have a second draft I’ll probably chuck it at a few readers for an initial glance, before really diving in with the trimming shears.

Onto the WIPpeteer Cheer, which isn’t so much of a cheer and more a shout-out. If you’ve been following my blog, you’ve no doubt noticed what happens on Wednesdays. I have to say that I am not the originator of WIPpet Wednesday. I stumbled upon it maybe a year or so ago, it waned a bit, then disappeared. I have just attempted to reincarnate it.

This week we had thirteen bloggers (besides me) add their links and share a bit of their writing with us.  From week to week the list may vary. New participants are always welcome as our WIPpeteer meme states:

SeanBeanWIPpet

They are an awesome group from all over the globe. Humorous, fun, supportive — and I’m taking great delight in getting to know them better via the various on-line venues. Writing styles vary, as do the genres they choose to write in, but each of them is telling their stories in their own unique voices. Some are already published, some on their way, some still getting that first novel finished, some of the more insane of the group have multiple WIPs going. If you haven’t visited their blogs, I ask you to do so. Show them some support and readerly love, cause they deserve it. And if you want to join in WIPpet Wednesdays, feel free.

Current WIPpeteers (in no particular order): Ink and Papyrus      Dreaming of Other Realms      Kate Frost      Disregard the Prologue      A Keyboard & an Open Mind      Elaine Jeremiah      Many Worlds From Many Minds      Let Imagination Soar      Adrian J. Smith      Regi McClain      Lightly Salted      The Girl Who Writes      Trueborn Jottings and even though we haven’t seen her for a while, the one who introduced me to WIPpet Wednesday so long ago, the awesome Krista Walsh over at The Raven’s Quill.

Most of us are on Twitter as well and can sometimes be seen flinging around the hashtag #WIPpeteers in some lively conversations. Feel free to join in. Have a great Sunday!

  1. I like the new look, even if it’s a tad dark. Glad to see you’re making so much progress! Keeping three balls in the air — not counting the little stuff, like, oh I dunno work and life — is pretty impressive. Even for an IMP.

Now get yer d*mned BOC entry done!

    • Again, I have an entire freaking week! I’m just deciding if I like mine enough, or have to come up with something else. The IMPs have a high bar, ya know.

  2. I am intrigued by your WIPpet Wednesdays; may have to pop back in here on a Wednesday to see what it’s all about. That said, I am beyond impressed by your word-counts…keep it up! 🙂

  3. Sounds like things are cooking for you!

  4. You’re really getting some work done! Way to go. And good luck this week on all your projects.

  5. A new look here… I like it, though as Josh noted, it’s a tad dark. Still, it has a nice sense of mystery to it. It works.

Yay for making The First House an official WIP. Does that mean you’ll be offering teasers of that for your WIPpets?

Thanks for the shout out about the origins of the WIPpet. I’m sure the true origins could be discovered, but… it’s probably more hassle than it is worth. You’ve resurrected it in this present incarnation. I’ve already set my “credits” to reflect that. Thanks for the update.

And… SUPER YAY for more writing done on WIPs.

    • I might still play with the new look a bit more, I just haven’t gotten back to it yet.

There might be teasers from the boys appearing in future WIPpets. 🙂 They seem to be somewhat popular.

  6. Congrats on getting lots of writing done. I’m so impressed with your ability to juggle WIPs. I’m a one at a time kinda girl 🙂 Thanks for the shoutout too – I love WIPpet Wednesdays and the WIPpeteers really are a fabulous bunch.

    • I get bored very easily so I need things to bounce to — it keeps me writing. Otherwise my WIP would probably spend great amounts of time languishing.

  7. Glad the WIPpet Wednesday network is growing! I enjoy the posts! And you sound very busy!

  8. I can’t believe how WIPpet Wednesdays have grown even since I joined, and that was just a few months ago… I think. I lost track of time.

I do admire your ability to juggle WIPs. I’m more of a serial monogamist… with boomerang tendencies. 🙂

  9. YAY for WIPpet Wednesday! Yay for word counts and new visions.

And just so you know, I am here as both a fellow WIPpeteer, AND as your official ROW80 sponsor (running more than a bit behind with sponsoring duties) *hangs head in sorrow, and vows to do better NEXT time we travel…..!*

Great progress! =) And happy Wednesday! =D
