Today is the 15th and that marks the halfway point in this wonderful experiment known as NaNoWriMo. If we take a peek at my stats as of this morning you can see I haven’t hit 25k yet.
And, to hit the intended target of 50k by November 30th, it appears I have to pen close to 2k a day. (I made the correction because the stats were as of this morning and, of course, I haven’t written anything yet today.) Yesterday I womped out an amazing 3,394! That is a rarity but, yeah, it felt a bit like…
Although, yesterday’s word count renewed my optimism, reality soon set in. With Thanksgiving next Thursday, a day trip next Friday, and my long list of Shit That Needs To Get Done Before Winter (because there are lists like that when you have a small farm) hitting 50k seems unlikely.
That’s okay, though. Really. A fellow writer on a NaNo support group put it all into perspective for me one day,
“…3128 for me today to get me just over a total of 17K, which is absolutely 17K more than I would have written without NaNoWriMo, so I’m pretty happy!”
See, I may not hit that magical 50k by November 30th, but whatever my total is, it is guaranteed to be more than I would have written without NaNo because, prior to making the decision to give it a whirl, I was dwelling on the two projects currently out of my hands and languishing in limbo.Even though I can’t do anything to hurry them along, the very fact they are taking up space in the ol’ brain pan is enough to stunt my creativity.
The trick will be, keeping some sort of rhythm after the 30th.
