Making Adjustments

The post I had scheduled for Friday got eaten.  Which sounds a whole lot like the age old excuse, “The dog ate my homework.”  Well, in this case, cyberspace ate my post.  And I didn’t have the time, or quite honestly the inclination, to re-write it.  I finally need to admit that while I am in the throws of editing BD&L, the blog will suffer.  There is only so much brain power I possess and spreading it thin is a bad idea.  Really bad.  Think cataclysmic disaster of epic proportions.

These were my original ROW80 Goals:

  • 2k per day which would put me easily through the first draft of the second BD&L book (I might have to adjust that to 1500 given my schedule but I’ll push for 2k)
  • If I get stuck on BD&L2, I must dedicate those words to short stories or flash fiction
  • Two regular blog posts per week (Monday & Friday) plus ROW80 updates on Sunday & Wednesday
  • Print out a hard copy and line edit BD&L when it returns from my beta
  • X number of queries per week once it’s ready to go (I haven’t decided on that number yet)

Here are my Adjusted Goals:

  • Finish editing BD&L
  • Regular ROW80 updates to the blog on Sunday & Wednesday
  • Other additions to blog as they occur to me and when I have the time/brain capacity to do them justice.

And, of course, interspersed within those are the other things known as My Life.  They include things I am obligated to do, and things which I *need* to do for the sake of my sanity (okay, so that one may already be a lost cause) and my soul’s well-being.

Write on!

  1. You’re still doing amazing things and I hope you don’t feel down on yourself for the blog! Proud of you 🙂

    • Honestly, yes, slightly down. But I’ll be feeling even more down if I allow my WIP to languish when I’m so close to seeing it completed…well… provided the finish line doesn’t get moved again! LOL 😉

  2. Sounds like you need to focus on the one main goal right now, and that’s ok! Writing is the most important thing, I think. Hang in there!

  3. Uhm… about that finish line…

I can’t imagine you’re that far from it (my intensely picky comments notwithstanding). Unless you’re contemplating revisions beyond those we’ve discussed. I’m truly in awe of all you do, especially since the writing is merely a piece of it. I wish I had your energy!

  4. This past week was all about my sanity, too. I fell behind on some of my goals, but I’m justifying it as necessary for my well-being. Good luck with everything you’ve got going on, though. I just went through a massive edit myself, so I feel your pain!

    • Do any writers actually have any sanity left? LOL Thanks for stopping by. Editing is a joy, isn’t it? Ergh. But it will be so worth it when I’m done. I know that. And I keep repeating it over and over and over and . . .

  5. Finishing the novel is far more important. Your readers will understand that!

  6. Brittney Van Sandt

2k a day? That’s awesome! And look your already editing! I think your doing a great job!

  7. The fact you’re willing to adjust your goals speaks a lot for your wisdom and awareness. There was a time when I was so entrenched (stubbornly so) in a draft that I refused to stray from my set goal. This was so long ago that I can’t remember the details. But my unwillingness to bend and snake around the obstacles proved to create more problems in the draft. I finally had to dump the draft and start completely over.

But I learned my lesson. And that was to be vigilant and objective of my progress, so that when it wasn’t working at least I knew it and could make adjustments.

So, I think you’re doing the right thing, the healthy thing, and sparing what’s left of your sanity! 🙂

    • Hopefully it’s wisdom and awareness, not laziness and avoidance! LOL It’s always nice to know we’re not alone in our journey, even though writing itself is a solitary endeavor. I’ve worked too hard on this WIP to shift it to the back burner. I would be extremely upset with myself if I did that, and know a few people who would kick my arse. Rightfully so. 🙂

  8. Still lookin’ good! I seem to have a pattern of revamping my goals for ROW80. This time, I was certain I wouldn’t have to, until illness struck and I did. Oh well, life happens. If you need to adjust, go right ahead and keep rockin’ the ROW. You’re doing great!
