Doing a Double-take on WIPpet Wednesday

Fall Into Fantasy banner 1 Don’t forget, we’ve kicked off the brainchild of the incredibly creative Mara Valderran. Fall into Fantasy is the blog tour that offers a new author each week. Check last week’s post for the all the details including author schedule, or Monday’s post to enter my Rafflecopter giveaway. There’s still time!

As for ROW80…I’m almost done with my re-read of Emergence and have found some…um…nuggets. Hee, hee. No, not the kind we’ve been seeing in my WIPpets of late. These are true gems. I think once I get the notes compiled I’ll have a much clearer vision of how to get where I know I’m going.

And now, 68 words from How Not To Buy A Dragon. Why 68? Because I’m getting creative with WIPpet math today and if you add the month, day, and both ends of the year (8+27+20+14) you get 69. But, the sentence ends at 68 so that’s what you get. WIPpet math is so much more fun than the math I had in school. 🙂 Everything that came before is still here. We’re still in Janni’s POV:

A man stood by the pasture fence, his white tunic clinging to the well-formed muscles of his back and shoulders, dark hair hanging in damp waves to a point just below the tailored collar. Janni frowned. Who’s this now? Her brows rose when she spotted the brocade doublet draped over the top rail to catch the late afternoon sun. Can’t be.

She cleared her throat and he jumped.

Our list of WIPpeteers is varied. Please feel free to visit them and see what they’re up to by following the linky in the sidebar. All genres are represented and anyone’s welcome to join in the fun. Come back Monday to meet the next author in the Fall Into Fantasy Tour.

  1. yay for nuggets and figuring out where you’re going.

Can’t wait to see what happens next 🙂

  2. A very intriguing description of mystery man. 🙂 I can’t wait to learn more about him.

  3. Short and punchy – left me wanting more 🙂

  4. I wonder who the man is? Jannis seems to recognise him. Maybe the two of them have a history. Intriguing. 🙂

  5. HE jumped? Why’s he nervous. This is intriguing. 😀

  6. Ooh, who is he? Can’t wait to find out. Jannis is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. She’s so spunky and full of life. I love the way you’ve brought her to life.

  7. I can’t wait to find out if my hunch is right!

  8. I know this! (I’m good with not-so-mystery men….!). And I think Janni may be about to be having full hands and second thoughts…I can’t wait to see what happens NEXT!

Nuggets! Wheeee! Me, I’ve got characters telling me things that shift their whole character arcs – in the middle of a blessed SENTENCE, no less (T’Pol, you HAVE to know how illogical that is…!).

And I know how Chameleon’s Dish ends now (which you might’ve thought I knew when I finished the draft, but, well….).

    • 😀 You are very correct in your assumption. Of course, I really don’t have much more written so what happens next…

Dang those characters shifting their arcs! Who do they think they are?

      • Can’t wait to see what’s next!

As for my arc-shifter, she thinks she’s T’Pol (actually, she’s certain she is).

And, to be fair to her, it’s not so much that SHE shifted the arc, as that it shifted, and she realized it very suddenly, and her rather powerful response to the shift clued me in…all very complicated. =)

Anyway, it’s going to really mess around with pretty much everyone’s lives for a while, and make things much more convoluted than they were, all around…which has gotta be good for the story, right?!

  9. Ho-ho! Someone of note but he jumps at the clearing of a throat? Naturally anxious type? Guilty conscience? Or just absorbed in thought?

Phooey on you for being so stingy this week. 😛 🙂

  10. Hmmmm…she knows him, but she can make him jump. I’m certainly intrigued!

  11. Oooh, the plot thickens! I think I know who he is. 🙂

  12. My goodness! You do know how to titillate the senses with your excerpts! Rawr.

  13. Curses! I am no good at remembering things that might be relevant later so I have no idea who this is! I am intrigued!

  14. Ahhh-hahaha!! “She cleared her throat and he jumped.” Love it!! Love your WIPpet math, too! I’ve not done the word count before for my math. Hmm…

  15. I am so bad at WIPpet math! I still have this mindset that numbers are restrictive so I try to find other ways to do it…lol

  16. Haha I love how creative you get at WIPpet math 😉
